The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists is getting ready to host its 21st Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Grand Hyatt.
NPR and PBS’ Maria Hinojosa will deliver the keynote address. She will also receive SAAHJ’s 2019 Corazón de Oro Award, an honor given to national figures who have made significant achievements in the field while making a positive impact on the Latino community or contributing positively on the U.S. Latino experience.
Other 2019 honorees include Antonio Guillen Tello of Univision, who will receive the Henry Guerra Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Journalism, and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, which will receive the 2019 SAAHJ Community Service Award.
The other main reason for the season: scholarships.
This year, SAAHJ will award scholarships to 14 deserving local students pursuing careers in journalism and communications.
For the first time, SAAHJ is providing a full $40,000 split between our scholars, a milestone made possible with your support.
For more than 30 years, SAAHJ’s scholarship program has worked to improve the diversity of newsrooms and communication industries, so they better reflect the communities they serve. This year, SAAHJ is proud to award scholarships to local students attending the following schools:
· Texas A&M San Antonio – four students
· University of Incarnate Word – three students
· Texas State – three students
· Trinity University – one student
· St. Mary’s University – one student
· UT Austin – one student
· Texas A&M College Station – one student
It has never been more important than now to train young aspiring journalists, so please, join SAAHJ in supporting our future generation while celebrating legends who help tell the untold stories of our Latino community.
