SAAHJ Scholarship Applications Now On-Line

San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists to Award up to $40,000 in Scholarships to Local Students

Applications Now Available to Communications and Journalism Students in Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina and Wilson counties.

SAN ANTONIO (March 20, 2017) – The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists (SAAHJ) announces it will award up to $40,000 in scholarships this year to deserving students in the San Antonio area pursuing careers in the media, communications and journalism.

Applications and requirements for the 2017-2018 scholarships are now available online at www.saahj.org/scholarships

San Antonio area students committed to pursuing careers in the communications industry, such as broadcasting or print media, advertising, public relations, photojournalism, visual arts and multimedia are encouraged to apply.

The scholarships, of up to $5,000 each, are available to high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate college students enrolled or will enroll full-time at a college during the entire 2017-2018 academic year.

Only applicants attending college in  the San Antonio area  and students with a permanent address in this area (but attending college elsewhere in the U.S.) are eligible. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, May 5, 2017 or emailed as a PDF attachment by May 8, 2017.

Scholarships will be presented at the 19th Annual San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists Scholarship & Awards Gala on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Grand Hyatt (600 E. Market) in downtown San Antonio.

“SAAHJ is committed to promoting diversity in newsrooms in San Antonio and in places far beyond,” Cooper said. “These scholarships only aid the endeavor of promoting diversity in many facets of media.”
