Filling out and mailing paper scholarship applications are thing of the past for the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists!
Thanks to a partnership with the San Antonio Area Foundation, SAAHJ has moved its scholarship application process 100 percent online.
After weeks of behind-the-scenes work and collaboration, the SAAHJ online scholarship application officially launched on Friday, Dec. 1 and has a deadline of Friday, March 9, 2018. A panel of five media and public relations professionals will evaluate the applications. Winners will be notified in late April and featured at the SAAHJ gala on Saturday, August 11, 2018.
“With the help of the San Antonio Area Foundation, we will be able to reach more prospective students than ever before,” SAAHJ President Joey Palacios said. “Our goal as a journalistic organization is to increase diversity in newsrooms – to do so we need to help future journalists from many ethnic backgrounds complete the foundation of their careers which is an education. A newsroom with diverse reporters will reach deeper into communities of color and better represent the people in its city.”
SAAHJ scholarship applicants will now register on the Area Foundation website. Once they have created an account and logged in, they can fill out their scholarship application at their own pace and save their work until they are ready to submit.
The Area Foundation website is a secure platform that also serves as a clearing house for numerous scholarships. Once they have created an account on the Area Foundation website, applicants to the SAAHJ scholarship will also be able see if they are eligible for other sources of financial aid.
SAAHJ is dedicated to helping Latinos and young professionals of all backgrounds pursue their careers in journalism, public relations and other areas of the communications sector. Every year, the San Antonio-based organization helps to advance these endeavors by awarding tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students at its annual scholarship gala.
